Is This Really Necessary?
I know what you’re thinking: “Oh boy! Liberals stirring the pot with race talk!” or “Why do we need to talk about this? Racism is a thing of the past.” Or on the opposite side of things: “Why are you even trying? They will never understand.” Or “They don’t even care while they walk around with their privilege.”
Here’s the thing: STOP! If you go to a church where just about everybody looks like you (and I’m betting you do, unless you go to a church where almost no one looks like you), then we have we have to talk about this! And, honestly, we should be ashamed we haven’t already. If we believe heaven is going to be filled with Christians and we believe there are white Christians and black Christians, then we need to get okay with being together because I have read nothing in the Bible that suggests there will be separate heavens. In Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus commands his followers to make disciples of ALL the nations… and as far as I know, that covers all shades of skin.
If you find yourself thinking one of the things mentioned in the beginning of this post, you need to hear and consider the things we’re talking about in the Heno Project. We all have something to learn. If you are someone who thinks there’s not a problem, just look around. Listen to your black brothers and sisters. Share in their lives and their stories. 1 Peter 2:9-10 speaks of a chosen race, a holy nation. That is talking about Christians. Not white Christians or black Christians. Skin color isn’t mentioned. ALL Christians are called out of darkness into His marvelous light. It’s time for us to start acting like it.
